- Can you afford it? Determine your budget for the purchase, insurance, maintenance and fueling of your car. Research cars you are interested in to discover up front and long term costs of ownership. Start to think about whether a new or used car is going to suite your budget. If you are interested in used cars look online for information about the lifespan of vehicles you are interested in.
- Apply for a loan so you know in advance how much you will have available for your purchase.
